The Type 98 20mm automatic anti-aircraft gun is the most common light anti-aircraft gun of the Imperial Japanese army. Type 98 was adopted in 1938 and used until the end of World War II. After the war, melon cannons were used by the Indonesian army during the Indonesian war of independence.
The Type 98 and its variants were based on the French 13.2 mm Hotchkiss M1929 machine gun, which was purchased by Japan and then licensed for its production.
Type 98 AA appears on the multiplayer map Bougainville. It fires single shots at long intervals.
The double-barreled variant of the Type 98 AA appears on Tarawa. At the level Tarawa B there are two hidden tasks associated with these anti-aircraft guns: to save the plane from anti-aircraft guns and destroy anti-aircraft guns with using mortar.
