The Type 97 Grenade was the main hand grenade used by the Japanese Military during World War II. It appears as the only usable grenade in Medal of Honor: Rising Sun and as a secondary grenade in Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault.

Medal of Honor: Rising Sun[]

The Type 97 Grenade is the only grenade available in the game. It first appears in the level Fall of the Philippines. The Type 97 is used by both the player and Japanese Infantry. Ally soldiers don't throw grenades in the game, but they can kick it when one is landed nearby. The player can have a total of 20 grenades. The range of the throw is determined by how long the grenade throw button was held down. In an early preview of the game the Type 97 grenade was named as Jpn Grenade (possibly short for Japanese Grenade) and the grenade itself was a separate selectable weapon like the Mark II Grenade in previous Medal of Honor games.

Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault[]

The Type 97 Grenade appears in Pacific Assault as one of the two grenades in the game. The only time this grenade can be used in a single game is at the level of Tarawa 3. It can be found in the bunkers. It is used by Japanese Forces in both single and multiplayer.
