The Model 99 Mortar is a weapon that appeared in Medal of Honor: Rising Sun and Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault. It is used by the Imperial Japanese Military, with its 81mm round proving to be very deadly against its target.

Medal of Honor: Rising Sun[]

The Model 99 appears in several missions, usually on a high position such as on top of a hill. It is capable of inflicting the same amount of damage as a Type 97 Grenade, and can be very dangerous if the player is charging against it. The weapon is unusable by the player.

Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault[]

The M99 mortar appears on the Sitting Ducks, Kokumbona Village С and Tarawa B levels. On the first, 3 mortars are used by the Japanese to prevent American soldiers to get to the boats. On the second, some Japanese use mortars to bombard the beach to keep Conlin and the others away from the artillery. On the third, the Japanese use them in combat, and later the player can use them to destroy anti-aircraft guns.

Trivia[]

  • Some Allied soldiers nicknamed the Model 99 the Knee Mortar, due to the common misconception that the user would have to fire it while holding the weapon on his lap. In reality, the mortar did in fact come with a base plate, and those American soldiers who attempted to fire the weapon while holding it usually ended up with serious injuries.
