Grumman F6F Hellcat (eng. Grumman F6F Hellcat) — us carrier-based fighter of the second World War. It is a deep modernization of the fighter F4F "Wildcat".

In June 1941, the U.S. Navy signed a contract with Grumman on the radical modernization of "Wildcat". But as part of the job created actually a new aircraft with a different form of fuselage, chassis design and more powerful engine. Production of the F6F began in January 1943. The first sortie in August 1943."Hellcat" was the simplest and most forgiving of piloting aircraft of the U.S. Navy. According to American data for two years of fighting in the Pacific, American pilots on the F6F shot down 5156 aircraft — more than the "corsairs", "Lightning" and "Wildcat" combined. On the "Hellcat" fly 306 pilots aces, including David Mccampbell, highest scoring ACE of the US Navy.
