Cheat - Perfectionist Mode (Entrenching Tool required)[]

After you reach the end of the train tracks, there's an enemy gate checkpoint with two mg towers. Do not proceed to the objective route to the left in the jungle. Stay there, and clear enemies on that checkpoint. At some point the bonus objective will be completed. When that happens, look to the right, and you can see a small fence door having opened. Go through it and you can find a small hut village. In the center of that village you can see a body of dirt which is the cheat collectable. You need the Entrenching Tool to collect the cheat.

Film canister 1 - Frank Dunning 135th field regiment R.A. (Valor in History)[]

Right at the very beginning, turn around behind you and you can find vegetation blocking a path. Use the Machete to clear the vegetation and go through that alternate route. There you will find some enemies and a small river. The end of this path leads you to a cliff overlook. You can see a river on the bottom of the cliff and a small opening on the mountain opposite the gap. If you press the use key at the edge of the cliff, you will use the vines to swing across the chasm and in a secret cave. In that cave you can find a Type11 LMG as well as the first film canister of the level. This cave then leads you back to the main route of the level leading you to the beginning of the train tracks. Once you exit the cave, there is no way of going back inside, so make sure to collect everything you need before you jump out of it.

Film canister 2 - Storyboards[]

At the very end on the train bridge, as you search for the valves, right at the third fuel tank, you can see a train car that allows you to climb on top of the destroyed train cars. Get on top and proceed backwards on the bridge and you will find the second film canister on top of the wagon adjacent to the one you jump off the bridge at the end.

Multiplayer Skin - Chindit (Skeleton key required)[]

Right after you meet the Chindits, you can chose to go left to the jungle, and right to the rocky railroad. Go left into the jungle and you will find a village. On the left of the village there's a hut on an elevated position. In the hut you can find the skin chest. To aquire the skin from the chest, you need the level's Skeleton key.

Secret area[]

Once you firstly reach the train tracks, you can chose if you want to go straight to follow the tracks or take a tour up the mountain to the right. Go right up the mountain and you will reach a cliff edge that overlooks the main path with the train tracks. There you find a large dark rock, which you can interact with and push it off the cliff so it destroys and enemy truck.

Another secret is a secret path right next to the elephant you can ride. There's a path blocked by vegetation. Use the Machete to cut the vegetation and follow the path. The path ends in a deadend where you can find useful pickups.

Historical Info[]

The Japanese Army used massive amounts of POWs labor to construct critical supply routes throughout Southeast Asia. These rail lines were critical to support and maintain the Japanese troops in these areas; however, they were vulnerable to attack by highly mobile Allied forces operating deep behind enemy lines.

Trivia[]

  • Graves can be found near the railroad tracks, implying that enslaved Allies died while building them.
  • In the middle of the level, the tracks go through a sort of canyon. This may be Hellfire Pass; a real life section where workers had to cut through a large rock.
  • There is no real River Kwai. However, there is the Khwae Noi River which, during the war, the Japanese had a railway bridge built over. It's possible that River Kwai is indeed based on the Khwae Noi River, but the name was changed.
  • This level may be a reference to the film The Bridge on the River Kwai.
  • The last two chindits near the blockade cannot be killed as the level's script "called" for those two to survive the game's events, where they must stay to kill anyone that follow from behind.
  • This is the last level in the game if played on co-op.
